Sun 2nd XI Versus Bablake Old Boys 6/14/2009
Exactly 500 runs were scored by the sides in a terrific game in which the Town sneaked victory with only 7 balls to spare. Bablake made an amazing start as both openers put on 208 for the first wicket and each made centuries. Desai 103 and Russell 100 were in stunning form but once they both fell, the side could only go onto post 248-7. The spin trio of Roger Kelsey took 4-40, Andy Smith 2-45 and Pat Howard 1-31 took the wickets. In reply, the Bablake total never fazed the Town's batsmen as Dave Temple made 62 with 5x4 and Andy Dadswell 24 with 5x4. Youngster, Guy Pearson carried on the run chase with a fine 45 with 6x4 and 1x6. However, it was Chris Wallsgrove and Ant Kerry that held their nerves when requiring 8 an over in the last 6 of the match. Wallsgrove made 31* and Kerry 21* including a crucial 6 as the Town reached 252-5 in a tense and exciting finish. Bennett took 2-54 and Green and Randall a wicket each but their efforts were in vain.
