Sun 2nd XI Versus Banbury 5/10/2009
The Sunday 2s completed a 100% winning record for the club over the weekend with a narrow 7 run victory over Banbury in the only game of the day due to the 1's clash being called off as Banbury couldn’t raise a team. Kenilworth were 13-1 before Mark Deeley and colt Patrick Howard put on 116 for the 2nd wicket with Deeley eventually out for 65 off 107 balls but Howard continued from his fine form from making 80 on Saturday to end with 69 not out from 122 balls when the innings closed on 181-3 from 45 overs. Banbury wicket takers were Iqbal 1-23 , James King 1-26 and James Morgan 1-19. In reply, Banbury looked well set as opener White and Smith raced to 37 off only 7 overs but when White was out he was quickly followed by Berry and Morgan both failing to trouble the scorers to leave Banbury 43-3. Captain Ed Smith and Liam Manley set about rebuilding the innings with a 64 run partnership before Smith fell to his Town namesake, Andy, to a fine catch from Pranay Turlapati behind the stumps for 54 off only 59 deliveries. Manley's wicket also fell to spinner Andy Smith after being stumped by Guy Pearson, who took over the gloves at drinks interval, after he had made a quickfire 35. The rest of the batting fell away as Banbury collapsed from 125-5 to 145-9, although it was a tense finish as the last wicket put on 29 runs when on course for an unlikely win but their run chase was thwarted by a fine catch by Guy Pearson behind the stumps off skipper Deeley's bowling as they were bowled out for 174 with 8 overs remaining. Earlier, 15 year old Tom Pope led the attack with a fine 3-43, Andy Smith 2-36, Anthony Kerry 2-43, Indy Matharu 1-49 and Deeley 0-1 off his two deliveries.
