Sat 1st XI Versus Solihull Blossomfield 5/30/2009
A disappointing batting display condemned Kenilworth to their 1st defeat of the season at Solihull Blossomfield. Kenilworth batted first on a fine surface but were soon in trouble at 38-4 and 53-5 before Gregg Peebles and Charlie Leonard set about rebuilding the innings with a 32 run partnership before Peebles fell for 19. Leonard fell soon after for top score of 24 thanks to a fine catch in the gully from Mohammed Altaf. A 9th wicket stand between Mike Watts who was unbeaten 21 and a rapid 19 from 24 balls from Matt Rees took Kenilworth to 147 all out with 9.4 overs unused. For Solihull Blossomfield, Ali Ebad led the attack with 5-18. In reply, Blossomfield found batting equally tricky as they were reduced to 22-3, leaving the game in the balance until a 67 run partnership between Sheraz Khan 29 and man of match, Rob Edmond, who was unbeaten on 43 off 98 balls with 4 boundaries. He fittingly hit the winning runs with more than 23 overs to spare as Blossomfield cruised home by 6 wickets, ending on 148-6. Mitch Lowe 2-34 , Geoff Edmunds 2-21, Charlie Leonard 1-41 and Gregg Peebles 1-35 took the wickets for the Town. Blossomfield 24 points Kenilworth 3 points leaves the Town in 3rd place 1 point behind Atherstone who are 27 points behind table toppers, Nuneaton.
