Sat 1st XI Versus Fillongley 5/9/2009
The Town 1s climbed to 2nd place in the WACL premier division with a 24 point haul at home to Fillongley. Kenilworth batted first but were soon in trouble 42-3 and then 83-4 thanks to 25 from Joe Haynes but his dismissal brought together Lee Melville and Mitch Lowe who both set about rebuilding the innings as they put on 125 run partnership together off 104 deliveries before they both fell in the same over - Melville for a patient 57 off 107 balls and Lowe a usual brutal knock of 74 in only 49 deliveries with 7 x 4s and 4 x 6s. The remainder of the innings slipped away from 208-5 with some poor running between and wickets and shot selection to a final total of 217 all out achieved with 2 deliveries left. For Fillongley, Steve Gardner jnr lead the attack with 4-41 and there was a wicket each for Tregonning, Slade and Nightingale. Dan Smith was next to go for 19, yet with his dismissal, Tom Nightingale and Aaron Blackmore set about rebuilding the innings as they put on 72. When Nightingale fell for 54, Andy Carty took at the challenge and made a quickfire 35 in 32 deliveries. His dismissal at 167-5 led to a collapse to leave Fillongley 182 all out with only two balls of the match remaining, losing their last 3 wickets for only 3 runs, taking 7 points and handing victory to Kenilworth by 35 runs and the 24 points. For the Town, left arm spinner Geoff Edmunds took 5-51 and with it the man of the match award, as well as snapping up the last two wickets, Mitch Lowe 1-32 Gregg Peebles 1-35, Charlie Leonard 1-33 and Dave Edmunds 1-22.
