GRANTS OBTAINED FOR NEW COVERS
(
posted 05-02-2010)

Kenilworth Cricket Club have been awarded grants from Sports England and a smaller £300 grant from Warwick District Council that have enabled the Club to purchase new covers and sheets for the forthcoming season at our Warwick Road ground.

The new covers will help reduce the number of Youth and Senior games cancelled due to bad weather which in turn will help to sustain participation in the sport.

Last year, the Club's Youth section lost 40% of their scheduled matches due to the bad weather that included a prestigious Warwickshire Under 16 two day game.

The Club is most grateful to Sports England and also to Warwick District Council for their generous support.

The new covers will be in use for the first game of the 2010 season.

INTERESTED IN PLAYING CRICKET??
(
posted 17-01-2010)

WELCOME TO KENILWORTH CRICKET CLUB! We are always looking for players of ANY standard and those interested in the game as possible members. So, if you are keen to give the sport a go, from new to the game, to those who have had a few years rest since last playing or to current players who fancy a change of scene and a new challenge, consider of what we have to offer. We are a very friendly Club and most welcoming to new faces. Any age, any ability! Likewise, if you are a non player but have an interest in the game, think about coming down as a Social member and using our facilities as a watering hole, as well as supporting and being part of the Club!

The Club has three Senior sides that play League cricket on Saturdays. The 1st XI and 2nd XI play in the Warwickshire Cricket League in the Premier Division and Division 1, respectfully. The 3rd XI play in the West Midland 3rd XI Club Cricket Championship and will be in Division 1 for 2010 season in that three division set up.

On Sundays, we run 2 sides in the Warwickshire Sunday League in a limited over format. During the summer, usually from June to August, we play 20 overs a side cricket against local sides on a Thursday evening. There are around 8 to 10 fixtures. We also host the odd touring side during the summer. We also have a Club Tour starting the last Monday in July. This is available to all standards and even to non players. It is always a hoot of few days away! This year, we are off for 3 nights and 4 games to the Brighton area.

We also have a superb Youth section and this year will be running Youth sides at every age group from Under 9's through to Under 17's. Many of the Under 15's and Under 17's have already tasted Senior cricket.

We have super facilities at our picturesque rural ground on the very edge of Kenilworth. The Clubhouse and Pavilion was officially opened last year after an arson attack in 2006 that destroyed our old place. It is a fresh and modern looking building with a great bar area to relax in. At least something good came out of the fire, although it was a very painful episode in our 107 year history. We also have separate large changing rooms on the first floor of our adjacent building each with players' balaconies that give superb views of our Ground, wickets and of the neighbouring fields. We also have two new wide outdoor nets and another throw down net for the cricketers. We are holding winter indoor nets at North Leamington School's new sports hall, commencing on Thursday 11th. February each Thursday for around 8 weeks for Under 15's, Under 17's and Senior players. New faces are most welcome. Junior nets for other age groups will be taking place on Mondays at King Henry VIII school in Coventry. Once the winter nets have finished, we will then be holding outdoor training nets at our Ground on Wednesday evenings for Under 17's and Seniors in the nets and on the ground. Monday evenings host the Under 15's, whilst Tuesday night is reserved for children of other ages and is run separately from the rest of the training with qualified coaches. The Club is a voluntary run Club. No one gets paid a penny for anything, from maintaining the Ground, running the Club and Bar to playing. It costs us money to play! Whether or not you are of 1st team, 2nd team, 3rd team, Midweek, Occasional or Youth standard, we are all interested in how everyone and every side does. We are all part of the same Club. There are certainly no prima donnas nor room for them at our Club! Subscriptions for membership are very reasonable and there is a match fee for players at weekends. We have a great social edge to the Club, both as a player or non playing supporter. You will find us warm and welcoming, so give us a try. For further details, send an email via the 'Contact Us' link (top left hand side) of this web page, or to 'mail@kenilworthcc.co.uk' or 'thetowncc@yahoo.co.uk' and we will get back to you.

CLUB HIRE - Are you looking for somewhere?
(
posted 21-09-2009)

Looking for a venue to hold your event? - Then think of what Kenilworth Cricket Club has to offer, in its new Clubhouse and Pavilion. It is a great venue and atmosphere and well worth considering for your function. You won't be disappointed.

The new building was officially opened in April 2009. It is a modern, fresh looking and clean building that can comfortably hold any number of people upto around the 80 mark. We have off road car parking on site, too. We have held many functions and received many positive comments from those who have used our Clubhouse. It had a carpeted area with tables and chairs and also a hard floor area, should you want a dance area - all within the same room.

Our facilities are available for daytime and evening functions. However, there will only be limited availability at weekends (Saturday and Sundays) during the cricket season - that tends to run between April and September - due to our cricket commitments but Friday nights are usually free. Between October and March, there is usually no problem in hiring the Clubhouse out at anytime. We will provide bar staff as well, who are all Club members.

We are a totally voluntarily run Club and Premises. All money raised goes back into the Club. Our private hire rates are very reasonable.

Click onto the link - found at the top right of this page and have a look at some photographs of the building internally. Then, if your are still interested, send us an email via the Contact Us link, or to 'mail@kenilworthcc.co.uk' or 'thetowncc@yahoo.co.uk' if you can not open the link, for further details. We will try our very best to accommodate your requests. We will get back in touch with you.

SUNDAY 2'S WIN LEAGUE CUP THRILLER
(
posted 13-09-2009)

The Club's Sunday 2's won the Warwickshire Sunday League Division 2 League Cup Final in a thrilling match that went down to the last over of the day against Sutton Coldfield on Sunday 13th. September.

In front of a large crowd, our Warwickshire Cricket League side chased down the Birmingham League outfit's score of 190 to win by 2 wickets in a nail biting climax as number 10, Roger Kelsey, kept his cool to blast the winning runs with only 5 balls of the match to spare after Pranay Turlapati had earlier made 42, Guy Pearson 37, colt Phil Edmonds 17 and Lewis Phillips an unbeaten 15 for the side. The side had bowled well and fielded superbly as Edmonds took 3-37, Andy Smith 2-31, Kelsey 2-33, Phillips 1-39 and Deeley 1-9, who also took 3 stunning catches. Richard Strange held onto a deep skyer whilst keeper Jack Edwards took a smart stumping and made a dead eye, direct hit, run out at the non striker's end.

It is the Sunday 2's first ever League Cup win, having being Cup finalists on 4 previous occasions since 2000 in the Warwickshire Sunday League.

To much appaulse and cheering, skipper Mark Deeley, was presented with the trophy from WSL Secretary, Ken Lancaster, to set off a night of celebrations.

The Club warmly congratulates all those that played their part during the Cup competition matches throughout the season and to the eleven who secured the trophy on the day. Well done lads on a great conclusion to the season and it was really appreciated the support from Members and others who turned up to watch and cheer the side onto glory. It was a great day for all present.

SATURDAY 1'S ARE LEAGUE RUNNERS UP
(
posted 12-09-2009)

The Club's Saturday 1st XI have finished as League Runners Up of the Warwickshire Cricket League and its Premier Division after they defeated Handsworth, who had been holding pole position going into the last match of the season. Their win secured second spot for the side and our Club in the 7 Division competition.

The side's remarkable victory came defending 135 and was thanks, in part, to Geoff Edmunds, who took a stunning 7-21, as Handsworth were skittled out for 82 and finished the season in 3rd place in the League.

Bablake Old Boys took on 4th placed Atherstone with a win required to secure the title and with it promotion into the Brimingham and District Premier League for the 2010 season. In a nail biting finish, they managed to chase down the Atherstone score of 220, to win by 7 wickets with an over or so to spare. Their win took them to the League title by only 7 points from Kenilworth. Bablake ended the 22 match season on 333 points with Kenilworth in second place on 326 points. Handsworth were third on 315 points whilst Atherstone finished in fourth spot on 295 points.

We would like to genuinely congratulate Bablake Old Boys on winning the title and wish them well for next season in the highest levels of Club Cricket in the Midlands, when they rejoin the Birmingham and District Premier League set up.

However, more importantly, the Club very much congratulates our own 1st XI for their achievements, in particular, in what turned out to be one of the tightest Saturday League competitions for years. They can hold their heads up high and celebrate the fact that they will be bringing some 'silverware' (well - a very nice plaque) back to the Club as Runners Up of the Warwickshire Cricket League and Premier Division - the first by the side since 2004. Well done lads on making it a great season for the Club, the first with our new Clubhouse. There are so many positives to build on for next season. The Club is proud of you all and thanks you for all your efforts throughout the season. Their success follows the Saturday 3rd's who won the Division 2 title in the West Midland 3rd XI Club Cricket Championship, the Saturday 2's who ended their campaign with a win that moved them in to a very creditable 6th place and also the Sunday 2's who won the Warwickshire Sunday League Division 2 Cup Final on Sunday 13th. September.

Sat 1st XI Vs Handsworth
A fantastic end to the Warwickshire Cricket League Premier Division saw Kenilworth claim maximum 24 points win a 53 run win at leaders at the start of play, Handsworth but Bablake claimed the title with their victory at Atherstone. Kenilworth won toss and knowing they needed maximum points to have any chance of the title should Bablake have a hiccup chose to bat first. On a pitch with variable bounce, Kenilworth could only manage 135 all out from 46.1 over. Matt Hone, in only his second 1st XI appearance, top scored with 39 from 34 balls and Mark Wisdish, who was last out for 23, put on a valuable 56 run partnership for the 6th wicket, including 5 penalty runs for the ball hitting the helmet. K. Smith 3-24 and R. Stone 3-41 were the leading Handsworth bowlers. In the 10 overs before tea, Handsworth slumped to 33-4 whilst after tea, only Stone with 24 passed 20 as the rest of the batting fell away against unsurprisingly Geoff Edmunds who took 7-21 as Handsworth capitulated and were skittled out for 82. Gregg Peebles with 2-23 and Mitch Lowe 1-29 were the other Town wicket takers. Edmunds ended the season with 54 league wickets at an average of 10.5, including 18-39 in the last 3 games. Overall, it was a very enjoyable and positive season for the 1st XI as they missed out on the title by just 7 points but congratulations and good luck Bablake who have beaten Kenilworth in both their meetings this season. Well done to all those who played this year and thanks to Richard Grover for another year of scoring and to all those supporters who have been entertained through the year watching the side playing through the highs and the lows! Yet, the side rounded the season off in style with an another win.

Sat 1st XI Vs Nuneaton
The 2009 Warwickshire Cricket League Premier Division title (and with it promotion into the Birmingham and District Premier Cricket League) will be decided on the final day of the season after Kenilworth completed the double over Nuneaton in an enthralling 24 run success and with it a maximum 24 point haul. Kenilworth lost the toss and their wish was granted, as they were asked to bat. Dave Edmunds and James Nason put on 67 for the first wicket but once Nason fell for 11 and shortly followed by Edmunds Junior, who top scored with 47 off 64 balls, only Tom Lawrence with 26 and Mark Wisdish 29 passed 20 as the side's innings closed on 174-9 from 50 overs. Dean Hopkins led the Nuneaton attack 3-52, James Taplin 2-40 Tony Ingram 2-41 and Lee McNeil 1-35. In reply, Nuneaton made an equally positive start reaching 55-1 but both openers fell including wicketkeeper, John Allen, who made 40 before he was bowled by Geoff Edmunds. Captain Ruban Field was the only player to make a score of note as he made 20 before Geoff Edmunds wrapped up the tail and leave Nuneaton 150 all out from 46.3 overs in a tense finish. Edmunds Senior claimed his 2nd man of the match and 5 wicket haul in consecutive games with outstanding figures of 13.3-6-9-6. Gregg Peebles provided valuable support with 3-73 and Mitch Lowe 1-37 was the other wicket taker as the side have set up a thrilling conclusion to the League season when any one from 4 teams can claim League glory. The top four all play each other in the final round of matches. The Town, who remain in third spot are away to leaders Handsworth, having closed the gap to only 9 points whilst second placed Bablake, 7 points ahead of the Town, entertain 4th placed Atherstone. The Handsworth game is a must win match for the Town who then must await the Bablake result to see if their dreams of Birmingham League cricket for 2010 turn into reality.

Sat 1st XI Vs Bedworth
The Town 1's bounced back from Saturday’s defeat to Bablake with a maximum points victory in a low scoring game at Bedworth. Kenilworth were asked to bat first on a damp track with variable bounce and quickly slumped from 44-2 to 52-7, with opener Dave Edmunds making 31 before Guy Pearson batting at 9 came to the crease and with support from Geoff Edmunds who was 18 not out, made 47 from just 50 deliveries as they put on a valuable 47 runs for the 10th wicket partnership before Pearson was last out with the score on 120 with 8.4 overs unused. For Bedworth, Andy Ashby returned fine figures of 15-5-29-5, skipper Scott Friswell took 4-40 and Kunal Sharma 1-11. In reply, no Bedworth batsman got going and only Sean Hirons who made 22 passed 20 and opener Andy Ashby made 18 but no other Bedworth batsmen made double figures. For the Town, Charlie Leonard was on song and took 4-32 and wily Geoff Edmunds took a fabulous 5-9 - his 5th 5 wicket haul of the season to take his tally to 41 wickets for the season and Gregg Peebles 1-15 but the Man of the match award deservedly went to Pearson for his composed innings as others around him struggled. With only 2 games to go the tightest WACL Premier Division for a good few years is set to go down to the final week of the season and the Town 1's are still in with a chance. They remain in 3rd place behind new leaders Handsworth who leapt frogged into pole position following Bablake's defeat at the hands of Warwick. The 1's play Nuneaton next Saturday and round off the campaign with a trip to Handsworth on the last day of the season. What a climax it could be.

29/08/2009
Sat 1st XI Vs Bablake Old Boys
In a top of the table clash Kenilworth suffered a narrow 2 wicket defeat to current leaders Bablake. After being asked to bat first Kenilworth, looked well place at 112-4 with more than 20 overs remaining but unfortunately the last 6 wickets yielded only 28 runs at the innings closed on 140 all out with 3.3 overs unused. Opener James Nason top scored with 44 but nobody else passed 20. Bablake bowler Steve Swaffield returned outstanding figures of 13.4-7-27-7 whilst captain Jason Pyott took 2-41 and Jonathan Sanders 1-27. In reply, Bablake found batting equally difficult although opener Bush made 35. However, Swaffield rounded off a good day for him as he top scored with 37 and captain Jason Pyott 30 but once they were both out it was left to Sanders to strike the winning boundary to take Bablake to victory with 8 overs remaining as they reached 142-8. For Kenilworth, Mitch Lowe took 3-47, Charlie Leonard 2-53 Gregg Peebles 2-8 and Geoff Edmunds 1-29 which meant Kenilworth picked up only 4 points whilst Bablake collected 20. With only 3 matches to go Kenilworth need to win all their games and hope for results else where to go in their favour if they are to have any chance of being crowned champions as they are now 27 points behind Bablake whilst Handsworth remain 2nd.

22/08/2009
Sat 1st XI Vs Atherstone
The Town 1's maintained their Warwickshire Cricket League Premier Division title challenge with a winning draw in a top of the table clash at Atherstone to remain in third position with 4 games remaining that also knocked Atherstone off top spot and who now find themselves in 4th. place. Kenilworth lost toss and were inserted. They reached 125-3 with 16 overs left as Dave Edmunds, James Nason and Lee Melville made 31, 35 and 39. After they departed Mitch Lowe made a rapid 51 from 32 balls with 3 x 4s and 5 x 6s and he lifted the side's total to 228-9 from 50 overs. Bowling, Kenilworth made a fine start as Lowe had danger man Luke Reeves caught behind in the 3rd over. Atherstone's glimmer of hope was skipper Matt Pickering who made 49 before he was cleaned bowled by Geoff Edmunds. Once he fell the draw seemed the likely result and so it proved as Atherstone closed on 153-5 from 50 overs. Dadu made 27 and Simon Grayson was unbeaten at the end on 27. Charlie Leonard led the attack with 3-38 whilst Lowe took 1-35, Geoff Edmunds 1-33. Results elsewhere mean Bablake are the new leaders with Handsworth in 2nd whilst Kenilworth remain 3rd. Next week is another crucial clash against Bablake at the Club's Warwick Road ground on Saturday, followed by an away trip on Bank Holiday Monday to Bedworth, matches that will go a long way in determining where the title will go.

15/08/2009
Sat 1st XI Vs Solihull Blossomfield
The Town 1's maintained their challenge for the Warwickshire Cricket League Premier Division title and with it promotion into the Birmingham and District Premier Cricket League with a 4 wicket win at their Warwick Road ground over visitors Solihull Blossomfield. The win maintains their 3rd position, 6 points behind leaders Atherstone and 3 points behind second placed Bablake Old Boys as all three sides won with only 5 matches of the campaign remaining. Solihull Blossomfield made a brisk start to their innings hitting 38 from the first 8 overs. However Mitch Lowe made breakthroughs and soon Blossomfield had slumped to 75-6. Despite Harris hitting 29 and youngster, Richard Weaver, 20 for the visitors the side could only muster 133 as they were bowled out inside 44 overs. Lowe was on song as he took 6-54 from his 15 overs, aided by some excellent slip catching. Dave Edmunds snapped up 2-20 with Charlie Leonard and Geoff Edmunds taking a wicket a piece. In reply, the Town 1's soon found themselves at 39-4 but Leonard batted with composure as he shared in 32 and 31 run partnerships with Lowe and Mark Wisdish. He went onto make an unbeaten 62 off 109 balls in which he hit 7 boundaries and a six as he led the side to victory when they reached 136-6 with 9 overs to spare. Dave Edmunds chipped in with 20 whilst Ali Ebad took 3-37 for the visitors. The next two crucial League games see the Town 1's take on both Atherstone and Bablake in a nail biting run in for all 3 top teams. Table now - Atherstone 240, Bablake 237, Kenilworth 234.

08/08/2009
Sat 1st XI Vs Warwick
Kenilworth's 38 run victory and maximum points over near neighbours Warwick keeps the Town in the hunt for Warwickshire Cricket League Premier Division glory. They have now moved into 3rd place and only 6 points behind new leaders, Atherstone, in what continues to be one of the tighest competitions in years, with pole position changing weekly in the run in for the title. Kenilworth were asked to bat first on a firm but variable Hampton Road deck. Lee Melville led the way with 60 from 104 deliveries as Dave Edmunds chipped in with 29, Gregg Peebles 24 and Charlie Leonard 22 in the side's total of 177-9 from 50 overs. For Warwick, there were 3 wickets a piece for Paul Jackson 3-42, former KCC player, James Wynn-Evans 3-29 and Craig Downing 3-22. In reply, Warwick got off to the worse possible start as Town paceman, Leonard, gave Kenilworth a fantastic start as he cleaned bowled Dyer and then had Looch caught behind to leave the hosts 0-2 after the first over. A steady flow of wickets saw Warwick slump to 78-6 as they struggled against Leonard and left arm spinner, Geoff Edmunds. However, a 41 run stand between Ross Briscoe and Sam Dabin gave Warwick an unlikely sniff of victory but when Briscoe fell for a fine 68 from 86 balls, it was left to Edmunds to trap the number 10 and 11 batsmen in front to leave Warwick 139 all out and Kenilworth victors. Geoff Edmunds deservedly took the man of the match award with 5-28, with his 4th 5 wicket haul of the season, whilst in form Leonard took 4-47 and Mitch Lowe 1-31. Keeper, Mark Deeley pouched two catches behind the sticks and took a sharp stumping as all other batsmen were bowled. Only 16 points now separate the top 6 sides in the Premier Division and with 6 matches to go 9 Clubs are still in the hunt for the title, each having a realistic chance of claiming it.

Sat 1st XI Vs Pickwick Post & Mail
Rain. All matches in the Premier Division were washed out this weekend.

25/07/2009
Sat 1st XI Vs King’s Heath
The Town 1's suffered their 2nd successive defeat by 6 wkts against King's Heath and with it slipped to 5th place in the WACL Premier Division 15 pts behind new leaders Fillongley in what still continues to be a tight competition, with the leaders seemingly changing weekly. Kenilworth were asked to bat first on a damp pitch but only Dave Edmunds with 85, his top score of the season, got past 20 as Kenilworth limped along to 160-8 from 50 overs. For Heath, Phil Jefferies took 3-34 and Andrew Davis 3-40 whilst other wickets fell to Sam Walker and Andy Lloyd. In reply, King's Heath reached 161-4 and victory with only 2.4 overs to spare after opener, Jefferies, scored 32 whilst Patel was unbeaten on 29 but former Harborne and Bromsgrove player, Andrew Lloyd, with 60 from 86 balls with 6 x 4 and 2 x 6 took the man of the match honours. Mitch Lowe claimed 1-35, Charlie Leonard 1-23, Geoff Edmunds 1-45 and James Nason 1-27 for the Town.

18/07/2009
Sat 1st XI Vs Fillongley
The Town 1's slipped up in their Premier Division title chase in the Warwickshire Cricket League following an 8 wicket defeat at Fillongley and are now in second place albeit with the same points behind new leaders, Bedworth, as they have won more games. Both sides are on 183 points. With some nine League games remaining, no Club seems able to take command, as only 21 points separate the top 9 teams that has seen top spot change hands 3 times in the past 4 weeks in what continues to be very tight championship. Kenilworth were asked to bat first on a damp wicket and apart from opener James Nason who made 54 from 108 deliveries, it was left to Gregg Peebles and Mark Wisdish with an unbroken stand of 90 which took the final total to 200-6 and maximum batting points achieved thanks to 61 off 60 balls from Peebles with 5 x 4 and 5 x 6 and Wisdish who provided valuable support with 22 from 47 balls. Fillongley bowling was led Ian Webster 3-36, Steve Gardner 2-61 and left arm spinner Tom Nightingale 1-36. In reply, as the track dried out batting became easier a 2nd wicket stand of 99 between Ben Fleming and Andrew Carty who made 42 made Fillongley favourites. Fleming went onto carry his bat through the innings for an unbeaten 101 from 108 balls with 14 x 4 and 3 x 6 and deservedly was named man of the match. Aaron Blackmore was unbeaten on 25 as Fillongley reached 201-2 and sealed victory with more than 10 overs to go. Gregg Peebles 1-42 and Mitch Lowe 1-54 were the only Town wicket takers.
